Renting

Not too long ago, apartments charged a monthly rent and the only surcharges might be for a garage or pool view. I hear that now they're charging for water, trash, general location and other items. Additionally, most want a 60 day move out notice instead of 30. Their month to month rates after a lease were maybe $50/month higher. Now, I hear of $200-300/month more!

I’m hearing stories of annual renewals increasing $1000 or more!

Why do you rent?

I rented because I thought that it was cheaper, didn't have to pay property taxes and I didn't have a down payment.

Did you know there are areas around DFW that are classified as rural (but aren't) so they qualify for $0 down financing? Map to check areas - USDA Home Eligibility.

Did you know if you're a veteran, you also qualify for $0 down?

Did you know there are bond programs in some areas that you may qualify for $0 down?

Did you know your rent covers the property owner's property taxes, HOA dues (if in a house), and other maintenance fees they estimate?

Did you know that if you're paying $2200+ per month, you could likely own a nice house and have tax benefits by doing so?

I quickly pulled the averages for the Allen neighborhood where I bought my first house years ago for $125,000.
